If you have a zone that won't shut off or a big leak, please shut off the water to the system until a service technician can stop by. This can be done in the basement where the irrigation system ties into the house waterline. If you backflow protection device is located outside, you can also turn the water off there by turning either handle on the backflow in the opposite direction of its current position.

winter backflow preparation

Every year there is a chance of a cold snap before we have made it to your house to winterize. In the past few years, we have had below freezing temperatures in October even though we typically are not complete with all winterizations until the end of November. It is important to shut the water off to your sprinkler system once you have finished watering for the year. It is also very important that if your backflow detection device is located outside that it be protected by wrapping a towel or blanket around it. This is typically only necessary if the temperatures are going to be in the 20's. The underground components such as the sprinkler heads and pipe are not affected by the cold snaps as the ground protects them. We are not responsible for backflow devices damaged due to freezing. If you have any questions or concerns, please call or email our office.
